About SciFinder Scholar

SciFinder Scholar from Chemical Abstracts Service contains journal and patent literature (Chemical Abstracts) with references from 1907 - present, substance data (Registry), chemical reactions (CASREACT), chemical regulatory data (CHEMLIST), and chemical suppliers (CHEMCATS). It also contains the tables of contents of over 1700 journals. It is the online version of Chemical Abstracts.

Accessing SciFinder Scholar

There are two ways you can access SciFinder: 1. SciFinder Web or 2. Downloading and installing the desktop version

1. SciFinder Web

• You will need create an account (free for students, faculty, and staff) to access SciFinder Web.
  Once your account is created, you can access it from anywhere with an Internet connection
• To create an account or access the Web version, go to the Login Information page
• SciFinder Web guides & training (CAS site)

2. Desktop Version

The desktop version is also available on productivity workstations in the MacKimmie Library Information Commons, on the workstations in the Health Sciences Information Commons, workstations in the Gallagher Library of Geology and Geophysics, and on several computers in the Chemistry Students' Chapter office.

SciFinder Scholar is available on campus:

• For office installation, go to the Download SciFinder Scholar page. For additional assistance with installation, please contact Jennifer Lee (220-3726, jelee@ucalgary.ca).

Once the program is installed, click on the Start menu, choose Programs, then SciFinder Scholar.
